One thing I always want my brides to understand is that your bridal hair and makeup trial isn't a contract.
You're allowed to change your mind.
In fact, sometimes trying a look is exactly what helps you realise you'd actually prefer something slightly different.
Tiska's Ibiza wedding was a perfect example of this, because we created three different looks across her trial, welcome dinner and wedding day. And although the final bridal look wasn't exactly what we'd originally tried, everything came together beautifully.
The reason? Communication.
Starting With the Bridal Trial
At her trial, Tiska tried a soft updo with a matte smoky eye.
A bridal trial is your opportunity to see how different styles work on you, how the makeup feels on your skin and whether the overall look feels right.
And sometimes you absolutely love what we've created, but after living with it for a few hours, looking at photographs or simply having more time to think, you realise you'd like to change something.
That's completely fine.
I always encourage my brides to be honest about what they love and what they're less sure about. I'd much rather know that you're considering a different hairstyle or makeup direction than have you worrying about telling me.
A Different Look for the Welcome Dinner
For Tiska's welcome dinner, we went in a different direction.
Instead of the soft updo, she wore her hair down, and we created a fresher makeup look with beautiful pink tones.
This is something I love about Ibiza weddings. When you're celebrating over several days, there's often an opportunity to experiment with different looks rather than trying to make one hairstyle or makeup style work for every event.
Your welcome dinner might call for something softer or more relaxed, while your wedding day might be the moment you want something a little more structured.
And having the opportunity to try different looks can actually make those final wedding-day decisions much easier.
Bringing Everything Together for the Wedding
By the wedding day, Tiska knew which elements she loved from each look.
For her hair, she decided on a sleek bun rather than the softer updo we'd originally tried.
For makeup, we brought together elements from the trial and welcome dinner, creating a look that combined the things she loved most about both.
And that's exactly why I don't believe your trial should mean you're locked into a particular look.
The important thing is that we communicate about those changes beforehand.
If you decide you'd prefer a completely different hairstyle, tell me. If you've realised you want stronger eye makeup, a different lip colour or less coverage, tell me that too.
I can be flexible. I can't read minds. 😂
Can You Change Your Bridal Hair and Makeup After Your Trial?
Absolutely.
But there is a difference between making changes to a look we've already discussed and arriving on your wedding morning wanting something completely different.
If you've tried a soft updo but now want a sleek bun, that's something we can plan for.
If you've decided you want a much more dramatic makeup look, I might need to think about different products, techniques or how much time we'll need.
That's why I always ask brides to send me updated inspiration photographs if their ideas change after the trial.
And please be specific.
Rather than saying you want your makeup to be more natural, tell me what that means to you. Is it lighter coverage? Less eye makeup? Softer brows? A different lip?
Natural makeup means something different to everyone.
The more I understand about what you actually want, the easier it is to create it.
Your Wedding Look Should Feel Like You
I loved how Tiska's final look came together because it was the result of trying different things, communicating clearly and taking the elements she felt most comfortable with.
She didn't have to stick with the first look simply because we'd already tried it.
And she didn't need to start from scratch either.
We just worked out what she loved and brought everything together.
That's exactly how I want my brides to feel about the process.
Your trial is there to help us get to know each other, explore your ideas and build your confidence in the look we're creating.
It's not there to stop you changing your mind.
